We were first introduced to the Australian Shiraz wine “Mollydooker” on a Royal Caribbean cruise – having a wine bar in the middle of the Caribbean was truly brilliant. Unfortunately, our introduction to this beautiful South Australian Shiraz wine was exceptionally short lived as we received the last drops of the last bottle. Two years later, we stumbled across the wine in a small wine shop called Stem & Stein in Huntsville, Alabama. We proceeded to buy their entire stock – and we are so glad that we did.
We hadn’t tried the Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz previously but this Australian Shiraz wine packed quite a surprise.
Visual: Its deep garnet hue pulls you in at first glance while the powerful aromas of tobacco and dark fruit strike next. The wine produces thick legs that carry the garnet tint longer than expected.
Nose: Subsequently on the nose are notes of subtle spice.
Taste: Luxurious flavors of blueberry and black currant combined with a black pepper zing create a flavorful balance not soon forgotten. Due to the spicy vanilla notes and long finish, this wine can certainly keep you warm and tingly (the 16.5% abv might have a little something to do with that too!).
Our Final Points:
- We LOVED IT!!
- It’s big and bold without being too big and bold
- It’s a fun alternative to a classic Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel (and combines notes of both!)
